In chemical engineering, a multiple-effect evaporator is used for effectively utilizing the heat from steam for evaporation. This apparatus is perfect for concentrating dilute liquid in order to increase the solid contents, and to reduce the quantity of evaporating liquid. The evaporator is widely used for the concentration of liquids in sort of solutions, emulsions and suspensions. It finds core use in sugar refining industry, also special evaporators are used for allied applications for effluent evaporation. In a multiple-effect evaporator, water is boiled in a series of vessels, and each vessel works at a lower pressure than the previous. The heating temperature decreases as pressure decreases, thus the boiled off vapor in one vessel can be utilized for the next one, and only the first vessel which has the highest pressure requires an external heat source. It is rare that the evaporators with more than four stages are practical.
As per the requirements of the processes, multiple-effect evaporators are built for heating surface areas. Generally, these can be offered within a range of 100 m2 to 4000 m2. And the tubes are made from stainless steel, available in the range of 3 m to 6 m length.
Steel fabricated evaporators are in vertical tubular construction, designed with stainless steel pipes fixed along its length. Also, the pipes as well as joints are high-pressure tested for having maximum heating & efficiency.
